Dance Lecturer – Yoga & Commercial
Emma grew up in Aberdeen and began dancing at 2 and a half years old attending classes of ballet, tap, highland, national, majorettes and disco. She performed in the School Show every year in the Aberdeen Arts Centre from 3 years old. She then moved to Sharon Gill School of Dance doing ISTD Tap, Modern, ballet, jazz, cheerleading and hip-hop and street at Citymoves. She started competing in competitions, championships and festivals up and down Scotland and won many awards for performance, choreography and improvisation. Being part of Aberdeen Cheer and Dance Company she danced at Aberdeen Football Club – Pittodrie – half time and competed in several Cheerleading competitions and championships with the team and in duos, winning many titles and awards along the way. Emma was part of the competition team which flew out and represented Scotland in the International Jazz Worlds in Orlando, Florida. Emma moved to Edinburgh at 16 and completed her NC in Dance at Telford College, going onto Dance For All Theatre School for two years studying HND in Performing Stage Stage. During her time at Dance For All she was part of ‘Team Scotland’ representing Scotland in the Hiphop Worlds in Orlando, Florida.
After graduating she went onto her first contract in Cyprus at The Olympic Lagoon Resort as a dancer. She then went onto work abroad over 5 years in other parts of Cyprus, Egypt, Spain, Greece and around Asia in hotels as a dancer and dance captain, fitness instructor and also onboard Costa Cruises as a dancer.
During her time at home between contracts Emma taught workshops, dance classes, wedding first dance lessons, hen parties, kids dance parties and danced at Corporate events. In 2017 she decided to take her love for Fitness further and completed her Gym Instructor Level 2 and Exercise to Music certificates. Settling for a while in Aberdeen, Emma had a chance to work in a Gym, making personalised and tailor made workout plans and programmes to help people reach their fitness and health goals! She also taught her own fitness classes and boot camps.
After battling health problems and finding a relief in practicing Yoga, Emma wanted to immerse herself further into this and be able to teach it to others who may be suffering from similar things she had been through. She flew out to Bali and spent two months in intense training learning all about the practice and philosophy of traditional yoga, meditation and ayurveda, completing her 200hr Yoga Teacher training along with 50hr intense meditation certificate. She went onto spend a further week in Bali at a 7 day detox centre to learn all about natural health and lifestyle, inner reflection, how to calm the mind, cleanse habitual emotional patterns and to have stillness within in a hectic busy lifestyle! It was truly a life changing experience for Emma, not only learning how to teach yoga skillfully and compassionately from such knowledgable teachers and yogis learning how to teach safe and effective techniques that have been used over thousand of years which integrate the mind, body and spirit, helping people to feel all the benefits of Yoga mentally and physically. Emma began her own little project called “The Sunshine Movement” with the goal to offer 1.1 lessons to people suffering from mental health conditions who were not comfortable in a class environment but could massively benefit from the techniques of breathwork, meditation and yoga. She wants to spread a message of positivity and love and help those who need it the most.
Emma is now settled back in Aberdeen and loves sharing her passion for dance and fitness with others!
Emma will complete her Childrens Yoga Teacher Training this February enabling her to teach Yoga to ages 2-14! She will also go onto complete her Yin Yoga and Myofascial teacher training in May.
